In recent years, as the energy density of sodium ion batteries continue to approach the level of lithium iron phosphate batteries, (sodium battery cell energy density of 100Wh/kg to 160Wh/kg, lithium iron phosphate battery energy density of 120Wh/kg to 200Wh/kg), in the low-speed electric vehicles, energy storage and other fields has a strong low-cost, low-temperature resistance and other competitive advantages. Market demand continues to boom, further stimulating the sodium ion battery industry chain companies to accelerate the production process.


Sodium battery application scenarios are communication base stations, low-speed electric vehicles, electric bicycles, power storage, solar street lights and other areas with relatively low energy density requirements, sodium ion battery technology route will be a good and important complement to the lithium battery technology route.


Since this year, the relevant deployment of the National Development and Reform Commission has repeatedly mentioned sodium ion batteries, and proposed research and development reserves of sodium ion battery technology. Under the influence of multiple factors such as technological progress, industry standard establishment, cost advantages, and accelerated landing of industrial projects, 2023 is expected to be the first year of industrialization of sodium ion batteries. Sodium ion battery cathode, anode, electrolyte and other key materials production capacity is also expected to be put into production in 2023, and the market size of sodium ion battery is expected to be 39.8 billion yuan in 2025.


The mainstream technical routes of sodium ion battery cathode materials include: layer oxide, Prussian blue (white) compounds and polyanionic compounds, which are three. Among the current multiple cathode technical routes, the R&D and industrialization process of sodium ion battery carbon-based cathode materials is accelerating, and hard carbon materials are expected to be the first to achieve industrialization by virtue of their stable structure and strong sodium storage performance.
